As a team of education copywriters and designers, we love inspiring young learners to nurture their creative skills.

Making a difference in education is at the core of our mission, whether it’s through the campaigns we send on behalf of our clients or by working with schools directly.

Dan, Kate and I recently ventured out to St. Barnabas Primary School in Darwen to help Year 6 with promoting their Jungle Book play. Despite not being chosen to star in the play… (we’re still awaiting our call-back requests 😉) we thoroughly enjoyed helping the children to create eye-catching flyers to share with their school community.

To begin the session, we quizzed the learners on the contents of an effective flyer before asking them to work in pairs to review a selection of designs. We were highly impressed with their sharp observations and analyses, and also their confidence in sharing their ideas.

In preparation for creating their Jungle Book flyers, we assigned the children the task of creating a persuasive headline to promote Matilda the Musical. Sharing our copywriting expertise, Kate and I encouraged the learners to use persuasive techniques such as direct address, alliterations, emotive language and rhetorical questions.

To our delight, the headlines they created were packed with persuasive strategies! They confidently embraced the challenge, using a wide range of vocabulary to create stand-out header copy. And it wasn’t just the children’s literacy skills that were put to the test – I tackled some rather challenging spelling questions too. Let’s just say ‘telekinesis’ is not a word I tend to spell often!

“It was such a pleasure going into St. Barnabas to help the Year 6 pupils write and design their flyers for the Jungle Book play! They were an amazing group, and it was great to see, first-hand, the positive difference we make through our Buzz Does Community strategy. Working with schools is incredibly rewarding, so I highly recommend leading an interactive session in your local school or college!

After plenty of warm-up activities, it was time to get started on their Jungle Book flyers. Some of the children chose to create their flyers using pens and paper, with others choosing to work on their laptops. Dan’s technical skills were put to the test, with many of the children asking how to resize fonts, adjust layouts and navigate the design software. Meanwhile, Kate and I prompted the children to make sure their flyers included all the key content and information to catch their readers’ attention.

Their enthusiasm towards the task, inquisitiveness and attention to detail was admirable, and it was great to see their creations come to life. The children’s flyers included eye-catching images and drawings of the key characters such as Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera, along with the key information about their upcoming play. It was a pleasure to work with Year 6 and share our marketing knowledge and expertise with them, and we hope our session sparked an interest in pursuing a creative career in marketing!

A huge thank you to you and your team. The Year 6 class thoroughly enjoyed your visit
